Research Interests
My general areas of interest are interpersonal and computer mediated communication. Using both quantitative and qualitative methods, I have studied communication involving a variety of different media, from online forums to conversational robots. My work investigates how people use technology to seek help, paying close attention to the social and emotional motivations that affect help-seekers.
In future work, I would like to expand my research on computer-mediated help seeking to the domain of health information, where social and emotional deterrents to seeking help can have very serious consequences. I am currently involved in projects that seek to understand the experience of anonymity and self-disclosure when communicating about health issues in online environments.
